Dirk van der Kooij, 2023 The Gestalt chair is an endless loop, comprised of interconnected tubes of bent steel. Whilst appearing effortless, the chair is reliant on ambitious technical craft. Dirk was compelled to make the Gestalt as a love letter to additive manufacturing: whereas 3D printing is so often used to imitate subtractive processes, the layers of the Gestalt chair celebrate 3D printing’s most enticing attributes. Namely, structure as ornament, and the activation of negative space. |
